SXSW, one of the world’s largest conventions that brings together the best in technology, gaming, film, and music, is travelling outside of Austin, Texas for the first time and making its way to Sydney.
From October 15 to 22, SXSW Sydney will see the brightest in the business convene, discover emerging innovations, engage with their respective communities, and have fun. To celebrate its first international voyage, our friends at SXSW Sydney will be organising two massive, highly-anticipated events for our fellow Aussies – the Tech & Innovation Expo, and SXSW Sydney Games Festival.
Here’s all you need to know about the event, tickets, and what/who to expect.
SXSW Sydney: Tech & Innovation Expo
- Date: October 18 to 21
- Venue: Sydney International Convention Centre (ICC)
- Pricing: $35 for Early Bird Pass, going on sale August 25 (Friday).
The Tech & Innovation Expo will let attendees get up close with businesses and founders from Australia and around the world. You’ll be able to meet, network, discover, and even test out the latest groundbreaking innovations in tech.
Who’s coming? Some of tech’s most well-known companies and the brains behind them, of course. Slack co-founder Cal Henderson, and Colossal CEO Ben Lamm are among those who will be appearing as speakers. For exhibitions and showcases:
-Qantas will be unveiling its ultimate Airbus A350-1000 aircraft behind Project Sunrise
Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) will be offering a glimpse at an Airspeeder flying race car simulator
Monash University will be engaging with diverse tech innovations
SOULX Co from South Korea will be showcasing an ‘XRoom’ Platform
Games Festival

Gamers, this is a rare chance to discover and even try your hand at some of the best video games across the Asia-Pacific. Over 150 game developers from around the world will be at SXSW Sydney’s Games Festival showcasing the latest and hottest titles in the space. Local game publishers Playside Studios and League of Geeks will be there, too.
There will be a ‘Tabletop Expo’ for traditional board games, card games, and RPGs, and a ‘Festival Stage’ with live gameplay and themed feature nights (think horror, fantasy etc.). There will also be a Games Award to celebrate the brightest talent, hosted by local comedian and musician Tom Cardy.
SXSW Sydney is proudly supported by the New South Wales Government. In October, the beautiful city will be at the centre of the tech world, and The Chainsaw will see you there. 😉
