It’s only been two days since OpenAI’s GPT-4o dropped, and punters online are already flooding the internet with memes and jokes about the interactive AI assistant.

GPT-4o’s voice sounds eerily similar to Samantha, an AI virtual assistant voiced by Scarlett Johansson in sci-fi drama film Her. Spoiler alert for those who haven’t seen Her — Samantha has a sultry voice, is flirty, and even gets naughty with the main character in the film.

So, some experts in the tech community are complaining that GPT-4o’s voice bears too much of a resemblance to Samantha. Even OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman leaned into online comparisons about GPT-4o and Her with a single tweet referencing the film. Why must an AI assistant sound so… playful?

Jar Jar Binks

Enough of sexy AI voices. Having pop culture icon Jar Jar Binks voice GPT-4o would inject a lot more life into the assistant.

Meesa here to help yousa! Meesa gonna be yous’e loyal servant, yousa wish is’a my command! What? Yousa wants meesa to deestroy ‘umans? Yeeessa!

Christopher Walken

Screen legend Christopher Walken has seen and done it all. The man has been in his fair share of sci-fi films. From pioneering a brain-computer interface for a movie in 1983 to playing a supreme galaxy emperor in Dune: Part Two, we trust Walken would bring maximum charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent to GPT-4o.

Nara Smith

TikTok star, poster child and mum, the trad wife movement’s Nara Smith has captivated the internet with her unbelievable cooking “skills”. How unbelievable? We’re talking about making corn flakes, bubble gum and yoghurt from scratch. It’s highly unrealistic labour that she’s performing: how does she not get her sleeves dirty while baking? After all, she’s a model and full-time content creator selling an illusion of a certain lifestyle.

Nonetheless, Nara Smith’s aesthetic videos coupled with soothing voiceovers got us thinking that we wouldn’t mind her voicing GPT-4o. She could teach us how to code from scratch.

Tanya McQuoid in The White Lotus

These AI bros … they’re trying to murder me. Jennifer Coolidge’s ditzy, love-drunk character Tanya McQuoid in hit HBO series The White Lotus would be a perfect voiceover candidate for GPT-4o. We can’t really explain why, we just know she’d pop off (with a wine glass in one hand).

‘The Voice’ in Dune

This doesn’t need much explanation. The point of having a full-time virtual AI assistant by your side is to help you become more productive. Who else is the ideal candidate for us to achieve that? If GPT-4o had the signature Bene Gesserit voice in Dune to put us under a spell, expect our output to double, triple or even quadruple.

Sir David Attenborough

We never leave out Sir David Attenborough in lists like this. Sir David’s voice has the power to turn any written text that’s remotely dogshit into one that sounds intelligent and educational. So, getting him to voice GPT-4o would surely be a gamechanger for OpenAI. Sam Altman if you’re reading this, you’re welcome. 👀
