Elon Musk says he will create a new AI chatbot called “TruthGPT” that he describes as a “maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the universe.”

The Twitter CEO appeared on a Fox News segment hosted by Tucker Carlson, and told the host that ChatGPT has a “liberal bias” and is “trained to be politically correct.”

“I’ll try to create a third option, and that third option… hopefully there’s more good than harm,” Musk said of TruthGPT in a 2-minute clip of the interview.

He then goes on to elaborate that there is “certainly a path to AI dystopia”, and that path is “to train an AI to be deceptive.”

TruthGPT and Elon Musk

The controversial CEO has long voiced his concern about AI, and more so, his dissatisfaction with OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman. It is OpenAI that created the ChatGPT AI that caught the world’s imagination.

Elon Musk was one of five co-founders of OpenAI when it was launched in 2015, but left the organisation in 2018.

Last month, Elon Musk, along with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and a long list of AI experts and researchers, signed a letter calling for a six-month pause on AI training.

Days ago, it was reported that Musk registered for a new artificial intelligence company called X.AI. According to the filing for X.AI, the company was incorporated in March 2023.

GPU grab

A previous report from Business Insider also stated that Elon Musk purchased roughly 10,000 GPUs for a project at Twitter. According to sources, said project involves “a large language model.”

Musk is currently listed as X.AI’s director along with Jared Birchall. A director of Musk’s family office is listed as secretary.

“An AI that cares about understanding the universe is unlikely to annihilate humans as we are an interesting part of the universe… hopefully,” he told Carlson.
